Speaker Spotlight: Gene Decaminada

Gene Decaminada, BS Pharm, RPh, FNHIA, FCPA
Pharmacy Manager, Yale New Haven Health Home Infusion

Describe your session in a tweet.

Overseeing your sterile facility certifier: A process of trusting their expertise while verifying their results.

What is the most important thing you want attendees to take away from your session?

USP General Chapter <797> requires that all sterile compounding facilities have their primary engineering controls (PECs) and secondary engineering controls (SECs) inspected and certified every six months. This certification must be performed by a qualified third-party vendor. Following each certification and recertification, a designated person or persons within the facility must review all records to confirm that the classified environments meet the minimum air quality and performance requirements specified in the chapter.

Excluding your session, what other topics are you passionate about in relation to the home and alternate site industry?

Sterile compounding, USP 797/800 Standards, soft skills such as how to send professional emails, replies and how to manage meetings. How to deal with difficult employees.

If you had a paid year off work, how would you spend it?

I would like to give back. Possibly volunteer for a foundation such as Make a Wish or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

If you had a secret identity, what would your alias be and what would you be known for?

I am a peacekeeper; I try my best to get everyone on the same page for productivity and reducing stress on my staff.

What’s your “it’s not a big deal, but it is” hill to die on?

Respect and empathy, these are paramount to me.
