Speaker Spotlight: Daniel Kyes

Daniel Kyes, CPhT, CSPT, BCSCPT, FNHIA
Healthcare Compliance Business Analyst California Specialty Pharmacy

Describe your session in a tweet.

Morning coffee meets cleanroom chaos. Good Compounding Morning! brings runway garbing, EM myth-busting, and contamination horror stories, so your pharmacy doesn’t end up starring in one.

What is the most important thing you want attendees to take away from your session?

Compliance isn’t about perfection, it’s about awareness, consistency, and accountability. When teams understand the impact of everyday decisions in the cleanroom, safer practices follow naturally and sustainably.

Excluding your session, what other topics are you passionate about in relation to the home and alternate site industry?

I’m deeply passionate about technician advancement, realistic compliance implementation, and bridging the gap between regulations and real-world operations. I also care a lot about culture; how leadership, accountability, and psychological safety directly impact patient outcomes in home and alternate site settings.

If you had a paid year off work, how would you spend it?

Traveling with no itinerary, sleeping in past 5 a.m. (yeah right), eating my way through different cities, going to concerts and shows on a weeknight, and saying yes to plans without checking a calendar.

If you had a secret identity, what would your alias be and what would you be known for?

Regulation Ranger (Dan) Fluent in USP, feared by outdated SOPs, and immune to the phrase “that’s how we were trained.” Madam Microbe-Slayer (Abby) Protector of aseptic technique, champion of sanitization, and relentless opponent of cluttered ISO spaces.

What’s your “it’s not a big deal, but it is” hill to die on?

Documentation consistency. If it’s not documented clearly, consistently, and accurately, it didn’t happen and that’s where good programs quietly fail. It seems small… until it really, really isn’t.
