Balancing Unpredictable Intravenous Medication Supply with the Demand for Safe Injection Practices Lunch & Learn

Seating for this session is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Providing safe and effective drug therapy has become extremely challenging during extended periods of drug shortages. Ongoing lack of availability of some medications and IV fluids has resulted in changes in administration expectations and behaviors, at times leading to prescribing and dispensing errors, unsafe injection practices, compromised care, and potentially harmful errors. This presentation will discuss at-risk behaviors that are the results of drug shortages, their impact on drug formulary managements and patient outcomes, as well as practical recommendations for optimizing the safety of medication use during times of drug shortages.
