NHIA 2026: Tuesday, April 21 Recap

Tuesday Recap from NHIA 2026

Tuesday morning at NHIA 2026 featured a breakfast symposium covering the complexities of Secondary Immunodeficiencies and our innovative 30-30-30 sessions that cover a central topic from 3 angles with unique perspectives. For example, the Leadership Track 30-30-30, explored how intentionally designed systems, such as team structure, role clarity, communication pathways, and training, enable high-performing interdisciplinary teams. Using a real-world case study of supply disruption, presenters illustrated how teams respond under pressure and identified strengths and vulnerabilities.

After, the final day in the NHIA Expo was busy with attendees engaging with exhibitors at booths and the Learning Lab as well as networking throughout the hall and at lunch. The Infusion Experience wrapped up its experiential education taking more than 350 attendees through a mock infusion audit of both the suite and home settings.

General Session Keynote
Our closing Keynote Arel Moodie shared the principles of powerful research called Adult Development Theory to help explain why people act and make the decisions they do and how to leverage different modes of being to best accomplish the task at hand or lead your teams to achieve their goals. “All humans pass through predictable and sequential stages of development and what we experience in a particular stage impacts how we see the world,” he explained. “By understanding a person’s current stage, you can recognize what drives their behavior and the scenarios that create friction with others and within a team.”

Moodie’s ALIGN (Assess, Locate, Identify, Guage, and Navigate) framework can be a helpful tool for decoding team behavior, influencing outcomes, and turning misalignment into momentum. “Ask yourself what is the problem that needs to be solved? Then, which stage should we address this problem from and am I thinking from the right stage,” he continued. “Once you are aligned, you can begin to move forward together.” Moodie closed out the afternoon’s education with an interactive workshop extending this research into a framework to apply to practical scenarios and in our own work.

Additional Education
Three blocks of education sessions on Tuesday afternoon provided more engaging learning opportunities. From integrating home infusion care following hemotopoietic stem cell transplant to pediatric vascular access and solving the HPEN claims puzzle, and more.

Conference Standouts
NHIA also presented the 2026 Lynn Giglione Women in Leadership Award, which honors emerging women leaders who have demonstrated exemplary service to patients and their peers while promoting the mission of the National Home Infusion Foundation (NHIF). This year’s honoree, Barbara Petroff, MS, RPh, BCSCP, CAC, CSPP, IgCP, FNHIA, FASHP, has been a dedicated contributor to NHIA since its early days, serving on and chairing the Standards Committee, contributing to INFUSION magazine, and helping develop the home infusion therapy instructional programs and sterile compounding workshop.

“Barbara’s expertise in the sterile compounding standards is remarkable, and her ability to translate and communicate the intention of these standards to practitioners in the home infusion space is key to continued patient safety and quality care,” observed Connie Sullivan, NHIA’s President and CEO. “From home infusion’s infancy, through national education, conference presentations, committee leadership, and direct consultation and mentorship, she has influenced best practices that will ensure the industry continues to flourish for decades to come.”

The 2026 winner of the NHIF Outstanding Abstract Achievement Award is Lisa Kinder, RD, CNSC FNHIA from Optum Infusion Pharmacy for her poster titled “Patient Safety During Critical IV Solution Shortage: A Home Infusion Provider’s Collaborative Strategy.” Honorable mention went to Colleen T. Tantalo, MN at the University of Rochester Home Infusion Pharmacy for her poster titled “Discontinuing Heparin Flushes in the Home Setting.”

We also recognized the 2026 cohort of Fellows made up of highly accomplished home and alternate site infusion professionals. The 2026 FNHIA cohort includes:
